I am going to start a series of portrait sketches and paintings of my friends and those I'm about to know. In return of my work, I ask the subject to share with me a personal story that's very memorable to you. It could be as intimate as your first love that was rejected or the memory of the last moments by the bedside of a dying relative who had profound impact on your life. It could be the experience of battling a disease, or the struggle for recognition and approval from a person that may never grant it.
The story is not for direct implementation but to help set the mood and to capturing something that's uniquely you as I paint. I only ask that the story to be entirely true, at least according to your memory. You can choose whether to be credited as the model, and if the story gets posted with the painting.
The reason I want to do this is simple, because it's a privilege to get to know a person, whoever this person is. Whether it's the head of state or a murderer on death roll. And by knowing I don't mean the artificial sense of knowing, such as having an alias in your phone book, a card in your pocket, or a face you recognize but remember very little of. We are all shaped by the lives we live through, and each individual ongoing life is made of many events that impacted and shaped you. By hearing your story, I get to know even just a fragment of you, forming an impression which I shall try to digest and embed in the painting through each brushstroke.
Ideally the painting would be done live. But for people outside London or UK, we will have settle for a photo as reference. Do tell me your story though, so I can help pick the most appropriate reference.
This is an experimental process i would like to try, please contact me through message to discuss details. I reserve the right to choose the subject.
